Obituary of Robert Quick
Robert T. Quick
Bob passed away quietly on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at Toronto's Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, leaving his parents Constance and Edison, his fiancée Allison and her children Adriana and Sam, his brother David and nieces Theresa and Laura, his brother Douglas (Diane) and nephews Alex and Andrew.
Two weeks ago many lifelong friends gave Bob a living memorial in Leaside, where he grew up. An outstanding athlete in school sports including hockey, baseball, track and football, "Quickie" was cherished by his friends, who marveled at his agility to co-ordinate social gatherings of Leasiders whatever the occasion. This time it was their turn and Bob had the time of his life.
As a member of the Fort York Guard of the 1970s, Bob became a stalwart of 1812 period battle drills and honour guards, and served as historical interpreter to Fort visitors, including thousands of schoolchildren. A former Guard Commander, Bob led efforts for the glittering Fort York reunion of 2003.
Bob had a successful career as a residential and commercial property assessor and held the Associate designation from the Institute of Municipal Assessors (AIMA). A passionate defender of Canada's natural heritage, Bob parlayed his expertise with official plans and local bylaws to sound the alert, in 2008, on a proposed massive redevelopment of 800 acres of Muskoka wilderness. Conservationists won the day.
The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 27, 2011. In Bob's memory, donations to the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, 610 University Avenue, Toronto M5G 2M9 or Toronto East General Hospital Foundation, 825 Coxwell Avenue, Toronto M4C 3E7 would be appreciated. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
