It came to my attention today that Mr Bickford had died. I wish to pass on condolences on behalf of my family...my mother, Hazel Chalmers Milne. My Aunt Betty Chalmers spoke often of the Bickfords as she recounted stories of Athelstan and Huntingdon. Although I never met any of the Bickford family, I was always left with the impression that they were fine people. Aunt Betty told me that Jean Stark Bickford went to MacDonald College with my grandmother's two sisters...Hazel and Margaret Saunders. Hazel later married Fred Hutchings and Fred and Mr Bickford, senior worked at the custom's office together. Aunt Betty died in 2006. My mother is still alive and she will celebrate her 90th birthday in April. Mr Bickford's life that I read about in the paper today describes the same sentiments that my mother and aunt often expressed in their stories of the Bickford family. I always had the feeling that warm friendships were an important part of their legacy. And though I never met Mr Bickford, I know that because of friendships established generations before I was even born, it is for me now to express my family's sympathy to your family. Sincerely, Sandra Milne Belliveau

Dear Jetta, I was truly sorry to read of Jim's passing. My parents, Bill and Catherine Burt, counted you both as friends, and I know that Dad had great respect for Jim as a colleague in the International Dept. Jim also touched me with his gentle kindness when Dad died some years ago; his humour and generous spirit were a great help to me. I send my thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

Please ensure that the following message is passed slong to Jetta Bickford, wife of the late Jim Bickford. One of the signs of getting a little older is reviewing the death notices in the daily newspapers! News of Jim's passing brought back a number of memories, including a meeting we had in the early 1970's when he interviewed me for a summer job with the bank. It soon became apparent that I, as a public relations student, was not the right "fit" for the vacant marketing position, but Jim was very gracious in seeing me. My thoughts are with you and your family. Brock Stewart (Joan Wolff's son)

I was very sorry to hear of the passing of Mr Bickford. We had a family cottage beside Mr and Mrs Bickford ( senior ) for many years by Lake St Francis . I remember your family coming down for a couple of summers. I too was a member in the Black Watch. You had a lovely family and I most enjoyed your company. You graciously extended an invite to Toronto which I excepted . It has been many years since then, lovely to touch base with you, unfortunately it is during your time of great loss. Deepest respects, Ken Ryan

Dear Jetta, Marian and I are deeply saddened by Jim's death and we send you our heartfelt sympathy. I have known Jim for over 40 years during which he has been my leader, my boss, my colleague and my friend. He was a pragmatic man with a great sense of humour and I am privileged to have known him so well. He invited me to be a member of CRABS which kept us in touch on a regular basis over my 13 years of retirement. I will miss him.

Just a young man in your parents' eyes,
Asserting your strength and beginning to rise.
Many challenges and crosses to bear,
Enriched with a companion so fair.
Single- minded in the life of finance,
Generously sharing and guiding in balance.
Befriending an assistant of talent and loyalty,
Infinite gifts of wisdom, befitting royalty.
Closeness between family and friends grow,
Keeping bonds, as kinship continue to flow.
Faraway place the companions fly and roam,
Often sharing food and friends away from home.
Regrets should never be in our hearts today,
Death is just a change in scenery this way.
