It was with great sadness that I learned of Lesley's passing. She was a wonderful person and I shall cherish the time that I was on her team. Lesley always brought a smile to your face and could look adversity in the face and make it take a step back. She will be missed.

Dear Paul and family, My sincere condolences on your loss of Leslie. She has been on my mind so often in the past year, after seeing her, cheerful as always, and looking so radiant at last year's WCA pub night, and I am very saddened and shocked that she is no longer with us. Leslie will always be in my thoughts as a wonderful, thoughtful and gutsy woman. It was great to know her; and working with her on the WCA board was very valuable. Her love of the outdoors and paddling was truly inspiring, and especially her courage and enthusiasm in the video paddling down the Colorado was contagious. I will miss her. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

I was shocked and saddened by this news. As CEO of the TEGH, I had the privilege of hiring Leslie. She was a very dedicated and hard working employee. Unfortunately, distance has precluded my attendance, My deepest sympathies, Jim Van Camp

February 2, 2011 12:21 For my dear friend Leslie Dutton… Leslie was an incredible woman. She was, kind, loving, caring, but most of all (as her brother would put it)…she was just pure AWESOME! She was a fierce leader, strong, charismatic and extremely passionate. Her passion seeped from her, affecting anyone and everyone around her. She was brilliant in a client meeting, always having something in her back pocket including a wet erase marker…to draw her visuals that would help further explain her idea or to help “unpack” the situation at hand. I’ll never forget when I had to fill in for a last minute presentation in front of our Senior Leadership Team and I was extremely nervous…but Leslie came and spoke to me minutes before and said “when you get nervous, just look at me and pretend that you’re just talking to me and everything will be fine.” So I did, I remember looking right at her as I spoke, and she had the biggest smile on her face and then she gave me the “thumbs up”. I smiled even more broadly and continued with my presentation. I still have the email she sent to Kim and Julie right afterwards; the subject line was “Maria rocked it!” It’s these little things that I will miss the most about Leslie. But I’ll miss her little quirks too, such as: when she’d squirm when seeing a piercing that was not of the “earlobe” nature; her hu-hu-ha belly laughs when her head tilted back and eyes would start to water; her infamous turtle necks and sweater vests; the way she said “cool” with a teenage undertone, all so classic Leslie. But what I’ll personally miss the most were her random walk by hugs (because she thought I might need one…or she needed one herself) and our silly bunny song and dance. She was simply incredible and I will treasure and cherish all our times together. Although her passing has sadden my heart, but what she brought to me as a leader, mentor and especially friend will always fill my heart and memories with a lot of love and joy. May you rest in peace Leslie, love you always! Maria xo

Dear Paul, Brian and the many that will miss Leslie, Please accept my heartfelt condolences. Sadly, my time working with Leslie was far too short. (I suppose those that worked with her for 15 years would say the same.) Yet in that year, I saw her enthusiasm, her tenacity and her creativity as she created practical yet elegant solutions for our clients. She truly cared about our clients, and she inspired those of us who had the privilege to work with her. But there was so much more to Leslie – the passion and love of paddling and her life with Paul, the joy that Hayley brought to the two of you, stories of holiday dinners with her parents and aunt as well as the fun to be had when her brother and his family visited the cottage. These were the things she talked about as we travelled to and from client meetings. We have been blessed for being a part of her much-too-short life. We will miss her. We will remember her.

Susan and I remember Leslie from visits with her Aunt Marnie some years ago. We think of a bright and caring young woman with a sparkle for life that was so evident to us. When we saw the picture and news of her death in the paper, various memories came back to us as a feeling of sadness entered the room. Our heartfelt prayers are offered for Paul, her parents whose company we also enjoyed, Brian and family and of course Marnie. We know Leslie has touched so many people in her life that has ended too soon. May she rest in peace and her loved ones and friends be upheld and strengthened at this time. Canon Greg and Susan Physick, (in Lindsay, ON since retirement in 2010).

Lots of people will talk about Leslie being a phenomenal consultant, a positive and strong inspiration to associates, and someone who cared deeply about the people at Hewitt and Hewitt overall. That’s absolutely true. Leslie was also special to me because she gave me a wonderful opportunity to become as Canadian as I could be in lieu of moving north (I live in Texas). I will always remember Leslie for this gift. My time in Canada is one of the highlights of my work life and I have Leslie to thank for that. Years ago she brought me up to work on a project with Ontario Lottery and Gaming, and then later she brought me into other opportunities. I loved working with Leslie, with the great group of associates in her practice, and the experience in Canada overall. When Leslie first learned about her condition, she recommended I fill in for her during her time away. Tough shoes to fill, I must say. She spent a lot of time bringing me up to speed, from offering mentoring opportunities for associates to providing detailed spreadsheets on financials to encouraging me to watch the Rick Mercer Report (which I still watch, thanks Leslie!). The last time I saw Leslie in December, even as things were difficult for her, she was still wanting to hear about the people at Hewitt and the business overall, and offering great perspectives on associates and clients. She never stopped caring. Leslie was special. I will miss her, as will many others.

I saw Leslie's photo in the Globe & Mail today & saw a smiling 13 year old with freckles and long curly blonde hair looking back, even before her name registered with me. Leslie was a classmate of mine at Northlea Public school & while I never saw her again after that she is one of the very few people I remember from that time. My deepest condolences.

Although I did not know Leslie very long or very well, I sensed a strong feeling of warmth and steely determination come from her. She was determined she was going to join our quilt club here in Bancroft when she was able to get here later on in the year. I know we would have all had a great time with her. Please accept my condolences to yourself and to both of your families.

It has been my great privilege to spend some time with Leslie lately, and be reminded of what a wonderful, kind, vivacious, intelligent and dynamic person she was. She was an inspiration to me as a paddler and a person (I cannot imagine going down Lava Falls in a canoe solo - she grabbed life with both hands) and how her lust for life transpired into other areas as well. Fred and I are extremely saddened at her passing, and offer our sincere condolences to Paul and Mr. and Mrs. Dutton.

Dear Paul and Mr. and Mrs. Dutton, I heard your news with great sadness. Leslie is thought of with tremendous fondness by those of us here at Hewitt. I had the pleasure of working with her for more than a decade. During the last year our contact was by email, so I am left with the memory of Leslie, not in her office, but rather with Hayley at the cottage, looking out at the lake together. Please accept my deepest condolences for her too-early passing. Regards, Carol Cooper

Although I worked under Leslie for several years, I regret not having had the opportunity to get to know her better. I will never forget her support when I was selling soup to raise money for an orphanage. Leslie bought a couple of jars from me, came back and ordered twelve more, and told me to donate the change back to the charity. Nobody loves soup that much, she just wanted to help me out. I told my family what a classy generous lady she was. And that wasn’t the only time she made me feel good. When I lost my father a year ago, Leslie came up to me, said nothing, but gave me a big warm hug. As her family, you already know what a special person you had in your lives, but I wanted you to know that I thought so too. I am so sorry for your loss.
