I just wanted to pass on my quick thoughts about Wally. I first met him in 1989 at the Fryatt General Mountaineering Camp. I was a young fresh guide and still wasn't sure about these "older" clients on the camps. I climbed Mt Lowell with Wally and did some other great hikes in the area. The last time I saw him was in 2000 at Fairy Meadows...
Wally was a great guy to be out in the mountains with. Though he was generally pretty quiet, he always had some stories to tell. I rememeber him at Fryatt looking up at the N coulouir on Mt Olympus and saying something like "I think I did the first ascent of that gully back in the 60's...
It was great to have known Wally and spent time with him. He was one of the Alpine Club's great members who shared his good will and stories with us for decades.
I still have a few photos of him, just can't figure out how to link them here.

MIchael Pisani posted a condolence

My name is Michael Pisani and I doubt that I have ever had the privilege of meeting Brother Joyce at the University of Toronto campus of Theta Delta Chi. Before graduating in 1995, I knew little about fraternities but was drawn to the camaraderie and high achievements of its membership. Its seems to me that Brother Joyce was just that type of individual who got involved, made things happen and never wanted to miss anything. Although he's passed, we can all revel in his contributions and the legacy he leaves behind including what he has meant to Our Beloved Fraternity, Theta Delta Chi. Rest assured his name shall be called out at our 164th Convention this coming August in Boston. If you wish to commemorate his life in a special way in our new Charge House, feel free to contact me. Sincerely, Mike
