My Condolences to Jane's family. As I am sure you all know Jane was someone with a huge heart. I met Jane the very first year of Camp Oochigeas. I even had the wonderful privilege of having her as a counsellor and couldn't wait to see if she was on as a Relief Manager at Ronald McDonald House during my stays there. I thought of Jane many times when I had the chance to share the love caring and enthusiasm that Jane had when I was a counsellor at Ooch. I would hope that the campers that I had would pass this on so that Jane will live on in the hearts of campers at Ooch.

I had the privilege of interviewing Jane about her experiences with Ooch for the Havergal Chronicle in the spring of '09 and I was so impressed with her commitment to bettering the lives of children with cancer as she battled it herself. From our short time together, I could see that she wore her strength and her dedication on her sleeve. My condolences to her family and friends, this is a great loss. I would like to express my deepest sympathy to Arn and to the Stodgell family. I was a classmate of Jane's at Havergal. I did not see Jane for many years after our Havergal experience but I reconnected with her at the Granite Club - playing tennis - several years ago. She will be sadly missed by a great many people who's lives she touched - including mine. Kathy

To Barb from another old Havergal pal, Heard via brother Steve about Jane's death. Though its been years since we've been together, I will always remember Jane as one of the "big girls", one of those older, wiser, kind and inspiring gals wandering the halls and playing fields at school. I know that later you and Steve and Jane had a most memorable trip together in England with our dear godfather, John Wright. Those were very happy and carefree days for us all. Clearly, Jane's professional and family life became a shining example to many. Deepest sympathies to you Barb and to you Arn and the extended family who will forever miss their beloved Jane, aka NeeNee. Much love Susan Manchee

I worked with Jane on auctions as she tirelessly and selflessly devoted herself to An Evening of Summer Dreams, a fundraiser for Camp Oochigeas. I am very fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn so much from her. If you were on a committee which she chaired, you easily found yourself looking for ways to do more and more to help make the event a success. She just had that effect on her committee members. My heart goes out to Arn and her family. She will be so dearly missed and fondly remembered.

Dear Arn, It is with a very sad heart and my most sincere condolences that I write to you at this time. When Ross and Judy contacted me of Jane's passing, my thoughts went to the many wonderful moments and events that you both had with Taylor, Jordan and them. It was a priviledge to be included in a few of those occasions. What a very strong, caring and courageous lady, Jane was. I'm a better person for having met and gotten to spend some time with her. Best wishes and God bless. Ryan Tripp

I was so sad when I opened my Saturday Globe and Mail and saw Jane's beautiful smile shining out from the obituary columns. Although it has been many years since I worked with Jane, I have wonderful memories of her at Stewart Avenue School in Cambridge, Ontario. She was the most loved teacher on the staff and many of her Grade 5 students were my students in Grade 6 when I arrived as a first year teacher in the fall of 1974. Jane had a joy about her that was infectious. She could relate to your students because she was truly 'young at heart'. I can still hear her lovely laugh and see her playing at recess with all her adoring students, not only from her own class but from the other grades, K to 8! She was so giving of her time and energy both in the classroom and extra-curricularly. It came as no surprise to me to discover that she was so involved with Camp Oochigeas- I had a young student in Mississauga attend that camp before his death over 10 years ago and his family gave me his Camp Oochigeas t-shirt which now holds an extra special meaning for me. Barb, I am so very sorry for your loss - your sister was an amazing woman - of course, you all knew that- but please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers and tonight when the sun sets on beautiful Lake Huron, I will raise my eyes to the heavens and be thankful for having known Jane, even for just a few brief years of her life.

The first time I met Jane was at the McCarts in Port Hope. I immediately liked her because we discovered we were both big fans of the T.V. show Touched by an Angel. We roared with laughter. And I thought to myself what a fun person she was. We both agreed that it wasn't something you would admit to everyone because it was a sweet programme but a "little woo woo". Also at our first foray into the curling party in Port Hope last year, Jane and Arn were so gracious and assured me that I could be a spectator without any shame!!!! She was concerned that I would slip and fall on the ice! She kept checking on me and enthusiastically explaining the goal of the sport. And laughing. Jane and Jocelyn came to visit me at the farm while I was recuperating and I thought how amazing she was to have made the effort when she herself was having such a rough time. Her sense of humour and interest in other people was very evident and I was so impressed by her attitude and presence. The last time I saw Jane was quite recently when her pal Anne couldn't get up to the farm to go for her walk with her, which was a regular occurrence. I got lost twice on the way there and Jane was very amused at my inability to get the directions straight. I kept calling her saying, "Where am I?" and she laughed and patiently explained again. We had a 10 minute walk down the road. It was a beautiful day, a slight breeze and sun filtering through the canopy of leaves overhead. All you could hear was the wind in the leaves and birdsong. Another bonus was seeing two gorgeous horses and riders coming towards us and they stopped to talk to Jane and discuss the day and the animals. We returned to the farm and had a little wander around the pond where she showed me her gorgeous pink waterlilies. Jane said to me, "Isn't this just the most beautiful place in the world?" It was. And her joie de vivre and happiness with her life touched me profoundly. Mike and I send our love and our thoughts to all of you. Her absence will be keenly felt by so many. Pat Mackey
