Obituary of Ailsa Gillan

Ailsa Mathewson Gillan December 12, 1921 - June 8, 2010Loved by all, Ais died in her sleep, as she had hoped, on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 in Toronto. Most inimitable Mum to Lynn, John, Lorna, Debbie and Janis. Grannie to fourteen and Great Gran to five and a half. Ais joins her first husband Albert Fletcher Riley, and husband of fifty years, Robert Smith Gillan. Sister of Art Mathewson. Predeceased by her sister, Pam and her parents, J. Arthur and Ruby K. Mathewson. A woman of tremendous strength of character, wacky sense of humour, exceptional success as a real estate agent, avid bridge player and crossword Queen, Mum lived a full and rich life, delighting in the accomplishments of her offspring and always maintaining her role as the May Pole, around which we spun. The family invites you to join them in a celebration of Ais' life at GRACE CHURCH ON-THE-HILL, 300 Lonsdale Road (corner Lonsdale and Russell Hill Road, Toronto) on Wednesday June 16, 2010 at 1:00 p.m., with reception to follow. Friends who wish, may make a charitable donation to the Salvation Army, Ugandan Orphans Fund (www.givemeaning.com), or the charity of your choice. A second memorial service will be held mid-July in her beloved Metis-sur-Mer, Quebec. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
