Katharine Jean Martyn

Peacefully at home in Toronto on Thursday, January 28, 2010 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Katharine was Librarian at the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library, University of Toronto for 36 years. Beloved wife of Bill Martyn for 48 years. Along with Bill, she leaves behind her cousin Karl Jaffary, his son Eric, his daughter Nora and their families. Their extended family includes Kristina Wright, Lidia Cancelliere, Lia Edgar, Tiffany Franck, Cathie McNally, Michelle McCall, Gerry McCall, Betsy Riesz and their families. She also leaves her close friends Jackie Brookes, Elizabeth-Ann Jocz, Jo-ann Pratt, David Keenleyside, Patricia Hosack, Jim and Betty Earle, Mary and Kenneth Lund and her many bird-watching friends. Special thanks to her palliative care team of Dr. A.J. Kirshen, nurse Michele Gaboreau and caregivers Jane Guillermo, Carazon Aviles and Chinnette Macalolot, who have been extremely kind, skilled and loving. Friends are invited to drop in at Katharine and Bill's home on Saturday, February 6 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held in the METROPOLITAN UNITED CHURCH, 56 Queen Street East, Toronto on Sunday, February 7 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow. No flowers please. Donations in Katharine's memory may be made to the Fisher Rare Book Library, Thickson's Woods Land Trust, Nature Conservancy or charity of your choice.
