Obituary of Joan Campbell

Joan Campbell (nee McGee) Passed away peacefully in Toronto on Monday, January 25, 2010 at the age of 90. Born and raised in Ottawa, Joan spent her summers at the family cottage in Fort William, Quebec on the Ottawa River. "The Fort" remained a constant throughout her life as the gathering place for her and her entire family. During World War II, Joan joined the Canadian Red Cross Overseas Corps and spent the war years in London, England as a volunteer. It was there that she met and married Keith Campbell, a Major in the Canadian Army. Throughout their 54 years of marriage the Red Cross Overseas Club was a central part of their lives, with Joan serving in a variety of executive roles. Joan also served on the Executive of the Royal Montreal Curling Club and the Montreal In His Name Society. Predeceased by Keith, Joan is survived by her three daughters, Susan (the late Tony Perkins), Joanne (Gordon Cressy) and Robin (Hugh Campbell); five loving grandchildren John Shipley (Christine Kouri), Kathleen Shipley (John Hektor), Jeremy Douglas (Erin Morrow), Joseph Cressy and Keith Cressy; and six great-grandchildren Sarah, Lauren, Campbell, Ethan, Molly and Zoe. Beloved sister of the late Elizabeth Kornfeld, Maureen Thomson and the Honourable Frank McGee. The family is profoundly grateful to Lalaine De Vera, who was Mum's devoted caregiver for many years, and to the staff of Kensington Gardens. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue), Toronto from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 31st, 2010. A service of remembrance will be held on Monday, February 1st at 10:00 a.m. in HOLY ROSARY CHURCH, 254 St. Clair Avenue West, Toronto. A reception will follow at the church.
