Obituary of Ralph Peck
PECK, Ralph Wellington
Died peacefully on Monday, November 9th, 2009, at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre - Veterans K-Wing, Toronto at the age of 87. Missed and loved by his wife of 57 years, Meg (nee Goad), four children Diane (Allen), Jonathan (Jackie), Stephen (Marilyn) and Megan, seven grandchildren, brother George, sister Karen and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, J. Douglas Peck, Q.C, and Mabel Ethel Peck (nee Kelday), and sister Alice. Ralph was born on September 9, 1922. He spent his early years in Gananoque, completing school at UTS in Toronto, trained with the RCAF and was about to ship overseas as the war ended. He graduated from Ontario Agricultural College (now U of Guelph) and worked with Cockshutt Farm Equipment. A love of writing led to work in various advertising agencies in Toronto. His talent and leadership took him into executive positions with Rexall Canada, Canada Bakeries, T. Eaton Company and Bowring Brothers. Retiring from retail, his next career was in teaching at Seneca College and York University. Interest in animals and nature meant that he was never short of a story about his boyhood adventures and family's farm. Ralph and Meg bought "the Cabin", where he was always working on a passion from raising honey bees to planting over 6, 000 trees. Many thanks to Dr. Deering, Nurse Fatima, and the staff at the Veterans Residence of Sunnybrook (K & L wings), for making his last several months so pleasant. Thanks also to Nurse Kim and the staff at LeisureWorld St. George for his earlier care. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 11 and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 12. Private interment will take place at a later date. If desired and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trees Ontario, 200 Consumers Road, Suite 701, Toronto M2J 4R4 (416-646-1193), or Sunnybrook Foundation, Veterans' Comfort Fund, 2075 Bayview Avenue, Room H332, Toronto M4N 3M5 (416-480-4483).
