Obituary of Lloyd Evenson
Lloyd Roland Evenson, DFC
Lloyd passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at K Wing of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. He was 89. During his hospitalization, his beloved wife for 60 wonderful, happy years, Dorothy, was with him every day and by his side when he died.
His interest and delight in our lives will be missed by his sons Jeff (Carla), Rich (Janice), Pete (Brigitte) and daughter Jane (Calvin), his grandchildren Kira, Leigh, Hayley, Drew, Jack, Rhys, Brett, Harry, Leif, Finn and step-grandchildren Lucas and Zoe.
Lloyd was born in Kenora, Ontario in 1920 and grew up in Winnipeg. He was a member of the 1941 Grey Cup winning Winnipeg Blue Bombers. During the war, he piloted 39 bomber missions - Leaside Squadron #432 and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He and Dorothy were married in 1949 and moved to London where Lloyd received a business degree from UWO and then to Toronto. For more than 50 years, Lloyd represented Canadian textile manufacturers.
He was member of Eglinton St Georges United Church, a Mason and Past Master of Ionic Lodge No.25 and a Life Member of the Royal Military Institute. He curled, played tennis and squash and lawn bowled at the Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club into his 80's.
Lloyd lived a life full of accomplishment, love for his family and friends and service to his community and his church. Above all, Lloyd will be remembered for his gentle wisdom, his genuine, embracing nature and the warmth of his smile. He was the nicest guy you ever met.
The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4. A celebration of Lloyd's life will be held in EGLINTON ST. GEORGE'S UNITED CHURCH on Thursday, November 5 at 2:00 p.m., reception to follow.
