Obituary of The Reverend Gerald Ernest Butterworth
BUTTERWORTH, The Reverend Gerald E.
Peacefully on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at North York General Hospital in his 79th year. Gerald served the Lord faithfully as an Anglican priest for 51 years throughout the Diocese of Jamaica and the Diocese of Moosonee. Predeceased by his wife Pauline, and his parents Hilda and Eric. Beloved father of Michele and her husband Glen McDonald. Devoted 'Papa' to Ariel, Thomas, Esther, Zachary, Isleigh, and Scarlett. He will be fondly remembered by his brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. He will also be deeply missed by his sister-in-law and her family in New Jersey. Gerald touched many lives and he will be missed by those he knew for many years, as well as those that he knew for only a short time. He had a kind and humble heart and a passion for the beauty of nature. Music was an integral part of his life, when he wasn't playing his organ he was busy at his desk writing hymns and prayers. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 25. A Eucharist Service will be held in ST. JOHN'S YORK MILLS ANGLICAN CHURCH, 19 Don Ridge Drive on Wednesday, June 27 at 1:30 p.m. Donations in Gerald's memory may be directed to St. John's York Mills Anglican Church (M2P 1H3), the R.C.C.O College Development Fund, National Office, 202-204 St George Street, Toronto M5R 2N5 or Reaching Out Through Music, 525 Bloor Street East, Toronto M4W 1J1.
