June and Charles Umpherson posted a condolence

Memories of Gerry are from an earlier time when we were both growing up in Weston. As members of St. John’s Anglican Church, we pre-teens and teenagers enjoyed a social support network system through such groups as Jr. Auxiliary, Jr.and Sr.Choirs, and A.Y.P.A; all of whom played an integral and important part in our lives as we grew up through the late 1940’s and early ‘50’s. Unfortunately, Gerry and I lost contact, but recently were re-connected through a mutual friend. Thanks to Christmas Newsletters we have enjoyed more than one nostalgic trip down Memory Lane, and I shall miss receiving his letter each Christmas. Charles and I wish to extend our sincere sympathy to the family in their loss. Charles and June (Wilson) Umpherson

Michele Glen and family, I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love. Leo Buscaglia

One year in May, when I was Rector of St. John's York Mills, I mentioned to Gerry that we did not have many hymns for the pre-Christmas church season of Advent, and suggested that he may want to write one. He said he would think about it. By mid June, nearly five months before it was needed, Gerry presented the completed hymn. Several years later, in another church, I told this story. Afterwards a person came forward and introduced herself as a relative of Gerry. His 'hymn' ' power will live on, as one of the many gifts he has given to us, and we have many thanksgivings of his life. Helen and I offer our support and prayers to Gerry's family and friends.

I had the pleasure of working with Gerry while he and Pauline lived in Geraldton. I also enjoyed the Rotary Club meetings we attended together. May you rest in internal peace, Gerry; and may Michelle and the rest of Gerry's family be inspired by his love and devotion to God.
