CRAWFORD, H. Ruth (Virtue
)August 12, 1923 - September 17, 2009
Dearly beloved wife of the late George B. Crawford for 62 years. Dear mother of George (Anne) Crawford of Toronto, Margaret (Bill) Dunn of Niagara Falls, and Janet (Paul) Duval of Georgetown. Much loved grandmother of Jay (Sandra) and Brooke Duval, Sarah (Javier) and Scott Wilson, Patricia and George Dunn, and James and Stephen Crawford. Great-grandmother of Dominic Duval. Predeceased by her brother Jack Virtue and her sister Grace Macdougall. Born and raised in Burlington, Ontario, she entered U of T at age 17, earned her Masters degree in Nutrition and was awarded the Victoria College Women's Athletic Stick. She was a founder and leader of several Leaside community groups, including Leaside - East York University Women's Club, of which she was a lifelong member, a book club that carried on for 48 years, and Leaside Curling Club. At Northlea United Church she established a group for young mothers that has been active since 1971, and was President of UCW. A volunteer at the CNIB, Donwood Institute, and Wellesley Hospital, Ruth believed that "to whom much is given, much is expected." The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 20. Funeral service will be held in NORTHLEA UNITED CHURCH, 125 Brentcliffe Road, Toronto on Monday, September 21 at 11 o'clock.
