Obituary of Elizabeth Mackinnon
MACKINNON, Elizabeth "Betty"
Beloved wife of the late Donald (May 2008), on Monday July 20, 2009, surrounded by her loving family, following a recent hip fracture. Dear mother of Susan (Alec), Jennifer (Steve), cherished grandmother of Lachlan, Megan (Ganesh), Brendan (Jenny), Caitlan (Tommy), Fraser and Alecsa. Proud great grandmother of Lydia Pearl and Kiran. Betty was born June 18, 1926 in Iroquois Falls, Ontario, daughter of Cliff and Pearl Jessup. She is survived by six of her seven siblings. Educated at the University of Toronto, Betty graduated as a physiotherapist in 1947 and went on to work at St. Michaels Hospital. After raising her daughters she re-certified and worked as a physiotherapist for another decade. She married Don in 1949 and they had almost 60 years together. After living in many locations across Canada, they settled in Toronto in 1960. Betty was an avid, accomplished golfer and first ladies captain, with 3 "holes in one" at Donalda Club. Special thanks to the renal team at Sunnybrook, especially Winnie, Amy and Dr.'s Ali and Michelle. We were blessed by her caregiver Michelle who provided Betty with excellent love and care in her final months. A family service will be held near Betty's childhood home where she will be buried next to her husband, in a small cemetery near Watabeag Lake. As an expression of sympathy donations to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, would be appreciated by the family. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
