Obituary of Kenneth Ainsworth
Kenneth D. Ainsworth
The family of Ken Ainsworth is sad to announce his passing on Saturday, July 11th, 2009. Ken is predeceased by his parents Mabel and Fred, his brothers Cliff and Jack and survived by his brother Doug.
Ken was a wonderful husband for 65 years to Vera Brennan and an incredible Dad to Jo-Anne, Suzanne (Ian Glen) and Ken (Lynne Angus). Loved and admired Boppa to: Kathryn, Kristine, Kimberly, Courtney, Geoffrey, Lauren and Julia. Proud Great Boppa to: Connor, Brennan, Spencer and Madison.
Ken loved to make people smile and laugh. He was a humble man who always underestimated his accomplishments, which were many. His experience of growing up in the depression of the 30's played a significant part in shaping his commitment to family and hard work. He served in the RCNVR through WWII and fell in love with the Canadian Maritimes and the sea in the time he was posted there - passions that he carried with him for the remainder of his life. He returned to Toronto to join the family business after the war and, along with his brothers and countless trusted, loyal friends and employees, established Ainsworth Electric as one of the most successful electrical contracting firms in Canada. He and his brothers had their share of setbacks and successes while building the business from the 50's through the early 90's and, despite the demands the business made, Ken always had time for family and community. He readily admitted that he accomplished more in his life than he could ever have imagined but that the accomplishment he was proudest of was his family.
Ken was a builder whether it was in his business life or his personal life. He loved the outdoors and the north where he built cottages, farms and boats. Wherever there was a project, Ken was there with his smile and his tools. He was a generous, gentle, supportive, thoughtful and loyal man who maintained his optimistic outlook to the end - characteristics that enabled him to build and sustain many relationships through his life. There is so much more that could be said about Ken - he touched the lives of many in very memorable ways. He will be desperately missed by family and friends. Life simply will not be the same without him.
A celebration of Ken's life will be held at the TORONTO HUNT CLUB, 1355 Kingston Road on Thursday, July 16th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Those who knew him will have the chance to share memories and tell their stories at that celebration.
If desired, the family would appreciate donations being made to either the Alzheimer Society of Ontario, 20 Eglinton Avenue West, Suite 1600, Toronto M4R 1K8 or the Canadian Diabetes Association, 1400-522 University Avenue, Toronto M5G 2R5.
