Obituary of Betty Price
PRICE, Betty Jane (nee BROST)
Peacefully, surrounded by her family, at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Toronto on Sunday, May 3, 2009, at the age of 80. Betty was the beloved wife of Erik Keith Price (who predeceased her) and a wonderful mother to Linda (Andris Luksis), Sandy (Jim Laxer), Michael, and Richard (Elizabeth Sanderson). She was the cherished grandmother of Michael, Kate, Emily and Jonathan Laxer, and Emma and Erika Price, and the adored great-grandmother of Nathaniel, Julia, Benjamin and Robert. Betty was the loving sister of Robert (Nancy) Brost of Vero Beach, Florida. Born and raised in Buffalo, New York and a proud American, Betty attended Smith College in Northampton, Massachussets, graduating in 1950. She returned to Buffalo after graduation and met Erik Price, a Canadian, whom she married in 1951. The couple moved first to Sarnia, then London, and eventually settled in Toronto. After raising four children, Betty enrolled in library school at the University of Toronto where she earned her Masters of Library Science degree in 1972. She worked at various North York public libraries until her retirement in 1993. Betty was very involved with the American Women's Club of Toronto, serving on its executive. She was also an active member of the Alumnae Association of Smith College. Betty enjoyed helping out at Goodwill, and loved to attend lectures at Glendon College and the Arts and Letters Club. She was also passionate about golf, bridge, reading and the Saturday crossword puzzle. She was a very warm and social person who loved to spend time with family and friends, and enjoyed summers spent at the family cottage in Shediac Cape, New Brunswick. Everyone she knew was touched by her vibrant personality, delightful charm, and unfailing good humour.
A funeral service will be held at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) on Wednesday, May 6th at 1:00 p.m., with a reception to follow.
