Obituary of Dietrich Boecker
DIETRICH BOECKER M.R.A.I.C. Architect
On Tuesday, April 7, 2009. Dietrich Boecker, at 78 years, passed away surrounded by family at North York General Hospital. He faced many medical challenges, and ultimately his death, with great dignity and courage. He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Christel, as well as his three sons Steven (Sue), Stewart (Mary Jane), Chris (Katie), and stepdaughter Aniko (Elliot). He is also remembered by his first wife, Brigitte, and predeceased by his second wife, Sally. Grandchildren Caitlin, Blake, Aviva, Derek, Jerrett, and Victoria remember him as their loving and 'bigger than life' Opa. Dietrich's passing is also mourned by his older brother, Henning of Wiesbaden Germany. He will also be missed by his many friends and colleagues who loved and respected him. After studying architecture in Germany, Dietrich arrived alone in Canada in 1952, with only $45 in his pocket. He worked first as a bricklayer until given a chance to advance as a draftsman. After getting his Canadian architecture license he was associated with many companies and designed hundreds of buildings in the Greater Toronto area. Dietrich loved being an architect and continued his craft well into his final years. Dietrich's other passions included tennis, sailing, gardening, barbequing, dancing, and cottage life. Proudly Canadian, Dietrich's name is old German for 'King of the Tribe' and he will be remembered dearly for his charisma, his extraordinary presence, and his curiosity about life's mysteries. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. The family will receive relatives and friends at HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W.MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue), from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14 for a Celebration of Life Service commencing at 1 pm. If desired, donations made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 2300 Yonge Street, Suite 1300, P.O. Box 2414, Toronto M4P 1E4. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
