I worked with Dietrich for many years at Belmont. He truly was one of the good guys in this business and I always had a deep and abiding respect and fondness for Dietrich. It was an honour and privilege to know him and he will be missed. Robin

I just want to add our names to the long list of condolences that I'm sure will honor and pay tribute to the full life that Dietrich lived. In the last ten years, Dietrich welcomed our family into his house, in the same manner he welcomed anyone who came through the door on Woodcliff. There was always a warm greeting and a sense of generosity when one visited. We also all learned from him, the value of pride in doing one's life work balanced with living well and maintaining a sense of equilibrium and humor. Though times were difficult for him in the last few years, he never lost that open spirit and perseverance that was an essence of who he was. He taught everyone the lesson of trying to keep on keeping on with your work, family, and curiosity about life, no matter what obstacles confront you. Even in his time of sickness, he was helping others, counseling them. Aviva is thinking of her Opa and all the happy times they spend together in Toronto. She remembers his kindness, hugs, making her laugh, and generosity. She thanks him for the lovely garden he and Christel created, where her mother and father were married and she played in. Christel and Dietrich's house became a home away from home when our family visited Toronto. We are also thinking about Christel and her ceaseless commitment to Dietrich and her family. He was devoted to her in the same way manner. I remember visiting them when times were tough. They still managed to be the most gracious of hosts, and one could still see and feel the love that that connected them both. A person's worth can be measured with not what he leaves behind in material goods, but the in the name and memory he bequeaths to others. Dietrich's 'name' is one of integrity, kind-heartedness, intelligence, talent, and above all a deep and limitless spirit. We all miss him terribly. May his family be spared from any further sorrow.
