Obituary of Lionel Varnish

VARNISH, Lionel Died peacefully at the Toronto East General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, December 28, 2008 in his 71st year, after a courageous battle with cancer. Lionel is survived by his son Julian (Stefanie), daughter Amanda (Sunjay), their mother Heather, brother Michael (Kathleen), and close friend Jean Stephen. Lionel proudly served with the British Army in Malaysia and will be fondly remembered for his literary prowess, love for the game of tennis, appreciation for music, quick wit and intellect. Most of all, he will be remembered for the love he had for his children. Special thanks to Dr. Carmine Simone, Dr. Yasmin Rahim and the wonderful nursing staff at the Toronto East General Hospital. A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, December 31 at 1 p.m. at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East).
