Heather, Julian and Amanda We were so very sorry to hear of the death of Lionel and send you our sincere condolences. Our thoughts are with you all at this sad time. Unfortunately, we couldn't be with you at the memorial service, as Ann had just come out of hospital after surgery. Our memories of Lionel go back a long way to the days at Eagle Mountain, where we all enjoyed each other's company so much. Lionel was certainly a central figure in the fun we all had there. It has been many years since we last saw him but periodically we heard news of him in more recent times through old Eagle Mountain friends. With all best wishes Bill and Ann McConnell

My very fond memories of Lionel go back to when we first met in Montreal in 1965. We worked together at the old Vickers & Benson agency there, we belonged to the same ski cottage in the Eastern Townships and to the same summer house in Vermont. We became close friends and the friendship continued when we were both in Australia in the early 1970's. My friendship with Lionel and Heather continued when we were all back in Canada in Toronto in the late 1970's and into the 1980's but sadly we lost touch after I had moved to Calgary some years ago. He was not perfect and was the first to admit his flaws. But, he was unique and charismatic and had the sharpest wit of anyone I knew. Although I had not seen him in many years the memory of our very good times together and the fun we shared when the world was young, has always been and will always be with me. I hope Lionel has found peace and I hope his memory will live on in the children he loved. Blane

Dearest Amanda and Julian We were so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. We send both of you our love and sincere sympathies. We know how much you will miss him. Losing a parent always leaves a big vacuum. Lionel was a very charming and very smart man. I remember how impressed I was with him when I met him many years ago in Montreal - it seems like a life-time ago! We just wanted you to know that we're thinking of you. Try to draw comfort from all the good memories. This is also a time to stay close to your mum. Much love to you both Liz and Alan
