HYNES, Berkeley (Lt. Cmdr, R.C.N.V.R. 1939-1945 ) After a full and wonderful life, Berk left us to be with his wife, Peggy Hart. Predeceased by parents James Patrick and Anna Lavina (O'Brien), brother Leonard, sister Margaret Dunn and eldest daughter Anne (Banny). He will be greatly missed by his brother, Lawrence, and sister, Eleanor Healy. Great Dad to Peter (Pat), Ricky, Mary Charbonneau (Ron), Paddy (Emily) and Larry (Julie). Much loved Grandpa of Melissa, Laura, Katie, Ginny, James, Chace, Michael, Olivia, and Mitchell. Berk spent many happy years in his youth sailing at the junior club of the R.C.Y.C. in Toronto. He was most active for the R.C.Y.C in the 14' Dinghy class and represented his club proudly in international competitions. When WWII broke out he joined the RCNVR and served on convoy escorts, commanding the North Bay and St. Thomas. Berkeley spent 55 years with Canada Permanent Trust Company as a respected trust executive. He gave of his time and talent over the years to organizations including the St Vincent de Paul Society, Trust Company Association of Ontario, the Catholic Children's Aid Society and O.L.P.H. Church. A true gentleman, he was much loved by friends and family alike for his openness, charm, wit and endearing smile. Berk took great enjoyment following thoroughbred horse racing and his children's antics, and was never far from a radio to keep up on the events of the day. The family is extremely grateful to Berk's caregiver Eliana and the staff of Sunnybrook Veterans residence. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Eglinton Avenue East) from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 16th. Funeral mass to be held in OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP CHURCH, 78 Clifton Road on Wednesday, December 17th at 10 a.m. If desired, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, 20 Holly Street, Suite 101, Toronto M4S 3B1 would be appreciated.
