I just wanted to send my condolences and say hello. Berk was always everyone's favorite uncle. My memory is he had a great sense of humour and a quick wit. I know Eleanor was sad about the news and she will miss Berk a great deal. Eleanor turned 91 yesterday.

Please forward my message to Berk,s nephew, John Hynes. John, I was very sorry to read about Berk's death in the Globe. I didn't know him well, he was a V.P. and all that so you could just say hello to him on the elevator at 320 Bay unless you were in trouble ( I don't think I ever was ). He helped me in the latter years of his career at 20 Eg. when I took on the Gooderham accounts and his gentlemanly attitude to the ladies of the family and his businesslike interaction with the men, spoke volumes of his great experience and knowledge of the Trust Services industry and the individuals/characters that were our beneficiaries. I can also remember that one of my last contacts with him was getting him in a cab from the National Club after, I think, the last Permanent/Canada Trust 25 Year Club cocktail party. You and I had agreed earlier in the day, at the office, that he might be a little disoriented and need a hand getting home. He remembered some names at that party as he circulated ( Leo Knowlton, George Gregory, Betty Schofield, etc., the old-timers ) but it was obvious the Alzheimer's was catching up to him. He will be a great loss to the Canada Permanent alumni family and to the Hynes family. Warmest Regards Bob Kellough
