Obituary of William Gary Glover
WILLIAM GARY GLOVER
1931 - 2015
"How do I love thee - let me count the ways" - a kind heart, generous spirit, truly a gentleman.
Darling cherished husband of Maureen for 34 years who was by his side when he passed away peacefully at Hill House Hospice. Proud father, avid sportsman and pioneering business leader, Gary loved nothing more than a good joke, a good laugh and time spent with family and friends. Loving father of Kerri (Haig), Peter (Pat), Patti (Ross), John (Libby) and Scott (Sarah). Much loved stepfather of Andra, Arden (Glenn), Jay (Michelle) and Mona. Granddad (G.G.) to Victoria, Natalia, Kristina, Jack, Hanna, Reid, Bryer, Devan, Megan, Katie, Noah, Pippa, Michael, Raphael, Gabrielle, Brianna and Spencer. Predeceased by loving parents, Bill and Marjorie Glover. Survived by sister Lynn (Bob).
Gary attended Oakwood Collegiate Institute before continuing his education and athletic career at the University of Toronto where he studied business and played point guard for the Varsity Blues Basketball Team. His love of sports took him from the hard court to the football field where he became an accomplished referee in the CISSA, the CIAU and, eventually, the CFL. He was also an avid skier and golfer. As a businessman, he helped usher in the new age of data processing and computers - still in its infancy at the time - ultimately becoming the youngest President of a Canadian corporation when he took the reins of Control Data Canada at age 40. Gary will be sorely missed and never forgotten. Much gratitude for the exceptional care of Dr. Janet Morse and all the outstanding staff at Hill House Hospice.
The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES - NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 11th.
