Obituary of Michael Globe

GLOBE, Michael Martin Michael Martin Globe died peacefully in his sleep the morning of Wednesday, December 23, 2015 (age 77) at Bridgepoint Hospital in Toronto, after a valiant battle with Multiple Myeloma and Amyloidosis. He was born in Toronto on February 24, 1938 to Audrey Sampson and Joseph Globe. On July 21, 1964 in Ireland's Our Lady Queen of Peace Church he married the love of his life, Theresa Smyth. Together they travelled the world, listened to music, played tennis and watched many, many movies. In a marriage that spanned over fifty-one years he was as romantic and loving in his final days as in his first. In his mid-teens he swept floors in a men's clothing store. Despite having to drop out of school in Grade 9, he went on to complete the prestigious Charted Financial Analyst (CFA, 1981) designation. He spent over 40 years in the investment industry in Canada and the UK. He worked with leading investment dealers in both countries as a financial analyst, institutional salesman and fund manager. As an analyst he was best known for his incisive knowledge of the companies he followed and the business sectors in which they operated. His writing and speaking were captivating and demonstrated a skillful ability to explain complex technical processes simply and clearly. He combined deep insights with a superb wit, captivating his audience. Michael lived life with passion and zest, making a dramatic impact on all he met. He is survived by his wife Theresa Globe (Smyth); Son Michael; Daughter-in-Law Helja; and his adored granddaughter Kajsa. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. " And now, death has finished, and life too. Your physical presence has gone, But with it, your later frailty. Like cannibals, we have absorbed your courage and your cheerfulness. In memory, you pace mountains with tireless stride. Your forceful voice trumpets courage and conviction." - M.M.G May 1996
