Memories of Leaside in the 70's - Mike and Terry were among the first, if not the very first, to bring those oversized Prince tennis rackets to the Leaside Tennis Club and guess what - they beat us, at least in that first game. Impressed by their skillful play, we joined the Prince club shortly thereafter.
Despite very sporadic contact after we moved to Germany, we remember Mike fondly.
Our deepest condolences to Terry and the family.

Michael and Terry have been our next-door neighbours for the past five years. We will never forget Michael coming over to see us on the first day we moved in to offer us a cup of tea. He was one of the kindest, most articulate, funny, and well-mannered individuals we have ever met. Both Michael and Terry have been so kind to our 3 young children over the years, and Alexa, Ashley and Conrad will miss him very much. He was such a gentleman and never one to complain. Michael was a great friend and we will miss him tremendously, but we are thankful for the past five years and the positive impact he had on our lives.

I met Michael for the first time when he contributed an article to a magazine that I edited for corporate treasurers. Over the next 20 years or so, we met for lunch several times a year. Michael had a wide-ranging curiosity and voracious appetite for enlightened observation of art. He loved to talk about books, movies and cultural trends. Our conversations usually lasted far longer than the food on the table, and when we finally said goodbye, Michael, in his running shoes, inevitably set off on the continuation of a long walk, which began at his home and ended after he'd gone downtown and back. We met last year at the Don Mills Plaza. He had the same twinkle in his eye as ever, the same sharp, inquisitive mind, and he looked as robust as ever. He was a unique individual. I'll miss him, but I'll also remember him fondly.

Mike and I worked as analysts at Greenshields in the late 1970's. One day Mike invited me to a luncheon at a Chinese restaurant with members of Mensa, and I was a little reluctant to go. Being a great salesman, he convinced me to go, and I had a great time. After the luncheon, I realized I was the only one there eating with a knife and fork, as the others were all using chopsticks (was this a sign I was not a member of Mensa?). Mike was a gifted analyst and wonderful all-round fellow, and will be truly missed. Ross Ferguson

Mike was an investment specialist at Canada Life. His insight and enthusiasm for investments was inspiring to me and the many agents that he helped. He was proud that his son followed in his footsteps in the investment world.
