Obituary of Robert Borden

Bob passed away peacefully in his home in Toronto on October 11. Bob was born in Toronto on February 12, 1931 and was named for his great-uncle. Predeceased by his wife, Jenny in 2008, his parents, Henry and Jean Borden and his brother-in-law John Crawford, Bob will be sorely missed by his children, Michael (Laurie) , Meg Johnston (Peter) and Julie Bullen (Chris), his grandchildren, Sarah (Ian), Alison, Laura, Trevor, Jeremy, Kaitlyn, Jenn and Kitch, his great grandchild, Logan; his siblings, Ann Bull (Chuck), Perry, Mary Jean Potter (Frank) and Henry (Susan) as well as his many cousins, nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his sisters-in-law, Joanna Wilson, Gill Fleming (Johnny) and Judy Merry (Julian) and by his companion, Lindsay Botsford. Bob grew up in Toronto, graduated from Upper Canada College, attended McGill University and joined McLeod Young Weir in 1954. He spent a lifetime helping others invest their savings, and ensuring that his clients were educated on the markets and well taken care of. Many of his clients became lifelong close friends. While he loved what he did for a living, investments were not his only passion. Bob loved to fish, from the days accompanying his father to Echo Beach Fishing Club and the salmon rivers in Quebec and New Brunswick to fishing trips on the Sandhill River in Labrador. Together with Jenny, he also enjoyed many relaxing vacations in Grand Cayman. His greatest love though was reserved for spending time with family and friends in Muskoka. He originally visited Muskoka as a teenager and was finally able to fulfill his dream of owning a cottage when he and Jenny purchased the island in Lake Muskoka in 1959. Many happy hours were spent tinkering and puttering at the cottage as well as playing games of bridge and hearts with family and friends. This past summer was the first time he had missed the opportunity to be in Muskoka. The family would like to thank Belmont House and his caregivers from Careables who helped make him comfortable in his final days. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES - NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 5 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14th. A celebration of life service will be held in ST. JOHN'S YORK MILLS ANGLICAN CHURCH, 19 Don Ridge Drive, Toronto, on Thursday at 11 o'clock. If desired, donations can be made to organization that were important to Bob including St. Johns York Mills, The Seeing Eye Guide Dog School and the SPCA.
