Obituary of Elizabeth Woeller
Elizabeth Jane Woeller (Driscoll)
Elizabeth died peacefully on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 surrounded by her family and her dear friend, Connie Schwenger. She was predeceased by her husband, the Reverend David Woeller (2006) and her parents William & Victoria Driscoll. Born in Winnipeg on January 4, 1927, Elizabeth graduated from the University of Manitoba (BA) & the University of Toronto (B.Ed).
A child of the Depression, Elizabeth was dedicated to social justice causes and improving the lives of others. At age 21, she travelled to London, England and worked in post-war relief. After their marriage in 1951, Elizabeth and David began an extraordinary partnership. They lived in the west, Quebec and Ontario and were blessed with four children, eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mourning her loss are her children: Michael (Susan), David, Hilary (Christopher), Stephen (Trace). Her grandchildren were a great inspiration in later life. "Bubby" delighted in their company and many achievements: Erin (Kevin), Katie (Ray), Sarah (Robert), David (Jessica), Michael, James, Shannon, Leah (Christopher), Matthew, Jacob, and Michaela. Great-grandchildren adored Elizabeth's laugh and gentle loving embrace: Arden, Deacon, Hannah, Henry, Claire, Noah and James.
Elizabeth's strong values and unwavering spiritual devotion grounded and inspired her extended family. Her commitment to care, compassion and outreach will guide the family forward well beyond the sadness that is now felt with her loss.
A celebration of Elizabeth's life will take place on Monday, August 24, 2015 at the CHURCH OF THE REDEEMER, 162 Bloor Street West, Toronto at Avenue Road. The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Primates' World Relief and Development Fund (www.pwrdf.org), or to Community Food Centres Canada (www.cfccanada.ca). Our thanks to the staff of Christie Gardens for their loving and compassionate care.
