Marian Cook

Obituary of Marian Cook

MARIAN COOK It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear Mother, Marian Joan Isabel Cook (Wright) on Sunday, August 16th, 2015 (exactly four days shy of her 60th wedding anniversary). Born (July 1st 1927) and raised on a farm in Banks, Ontario. Missed immeasurably already by her loving husband James Gordon Cook and by her three sons, Stephen (Cindy Bongard), Alan (Mara) and Glenn (Jennifer) and by her grandchildren: Jamie, Lindsay, Jesselyn, Ben, Eli and Emma. Predeceased by her parents George and Sarah Wright, brothers Tom (1942), Jack (Claire), George (Shirley) and by her sister Jean. Mom is survived by her brother Donald (Dan) and sister-in-law Lillian of Collingwood, Ontario. It was Mom's cousin Bob Wright who brought his Queen's Commerce classmate Gord home to Collingwood in the early 1950's - he met Marian and the rest, as they say, is history. They settled on Bessborough Drive in Leaside (exactly half way between the curling club and the beer store) where the three boys (and Dino the mutt) enjoyed an idyllic childhood - walking to school (home for lunch) and to baseball diamonds and hockey rinks. Mom was an avid curler, bridge player, awesome cook (pardon the pun), and ghost writer of high school essays and super supporter of any activities in which her grandchildren were involved. Many people would be unaware that Mom was a "special advisor" to her beloved Toronto Blue Jays. When Manager John Gibbons picks up the phone in the dugout, fans assume he is calling the bullpen ….. wrong, that's our Mom he is speaking to and he had better have both ears open !. The recent trades which will ensure that the Jays make it to the post-season would not have happened without Marian Cook's approval. The family would like to thank the Blue Jays for beating the Yankees on the day Mom passed away - she would have loved that gift. Mom's greatest love was being with her family, especially the Wright family reunion held every Civic Holiday weekend at the farm on Blue Mountain. Mom was on the original "founding committee" for the reunion almost 40 years ago. Sadly Mom was unable to attend this year's reunion (her first miss) but she was overjoyed when she heard that once again there were four generations in attendance! The Wright Family Reunion will indeed be Mom's legacy. Rest Mom, you've earned it - Dad, your boys, and the Blue Jays will take it from here. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES - NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, August 24, followed by a service at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25. If desired, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated by the family. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
