Obituary of William Rauenbusch
RAUENBUSCH, William, B.Comm., L.LB., LLM, MBA, J.D.
1945 - 2015
It is with heavy hearts that the family of William Rauenbusch announces his sudden and peaceful passing on May 26, 2015 in Calgary, Alberta in the home of his son. At age 6, William immigrated to Canada from Nuremburg, Germany with his parents Richard and Emma, and older brother Henry. To the delight of his parents, William excelled at school, finishing first in his class in Commerce and Finance at the University of Toronto and at Osgoode Law School. He was offered scholarships at a number of American universities. He chose Harvard Law School so he could be close to his sweetheart, Frances Joyce. William and Frances married on June 24, 1972 a week after Bill received his Master of Law from Harvard. William and Frances raised their two sons, Timothy and Christopher, in Toronto and continued to reside in the city that Bill loved. Bill had high aspirations and after graduating from Harvard he formed his own law firm. After a brief time he joined Osler, Hoskin and Harcourt LLP, becoming a partner at an early age.
Bill finished with law in his 50's so he had more time to do the things he loved to do: tend to his garden, do minor renovations, listen to classical music (especially opera) and take care of Franny. Bill worked out almost daily at the Granite Club, expecting that he and Fran would enjoy a long and healthy life together.
The last 10 days of his life unfolded to perfection. Tim, who lives in Seattle, traveled with his son Benjamin to Toronto and organized a "Bill and the Boys Weekend" that included an opera and then a celebration of Mother's Day in honour of Fran. On the last evening of Tim's visit, Bill and Ben, aged 3, enjoyed a marshmallow roast in the backyard. A week later Bill flew to Calgary to spend a few days at Chris and Shawne's new home. He assisted the boys in installing dimmer switches and light fixtures. Chris found his dad with no vital signs and administered CPR until the emergency crew arrived. His heart had given out.
Bill leaves behind his wife Frances Joyce, sons Timothy and Christopher and daughter-in-law, Kerry Layden Rauenbusch, son-in-law, Shawne Mohl and grandson Benjamin, 2 sisters-in-law, Mary Anne McCartney and Laura Joyce Evans and many nieces and nephews and cherished friends.
The family received friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES - NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Monday, June 1. Mass of Christian Burial was held in BLESSED SACRAMENT CHURCH, 24 Cheritan Avenue on Tuesday, June 2 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
We will love you forever.
