How beautiful your obituary! Lucas must have been a very special young man. And how lucky he was to have been loved by such a caring and sensitive family. Kathy, we are so sorry for your loss. Just seeing Lucas's sweet face in the photo reveals an intelligent and kind character. He has clearly been a blessing in all your lives, and hopefully the pain of losing him will be less when you can recall the many warm memories and deep pride that you share. Yet, nothing can be so difficult as losing a child. We send you and your family our deepest and heartfelt condolences at this time. With love, Louise and David

I was Lucas's Grade 1 and 2 teacher. He sat close to my desk because he was often distracted with his own thoughts. Lucas was a beautiful child, sweet and quiet who loved to draw pictures. I was always bothering him to add colour to his drawings but he never wanted to do this. His pictures were much too detailed to ruin with crayon. He taught me never to ask this of my other students. Lucas became a very talented artist, a lovely grown-up and a special young man who the world will miss terribly. I will always remain close to his wonderful mother, Kathy, who has been a lovely friend to my own cihild, Abigail. I am so sad that we have lost you, Lucas, but I am proud that you were once my student and I am grateful to have known you.

We were just broken hearted to hear about the passing of Lucas. I was constantly in awe of his character, strength and incredible positive outlook on life. He made all around him feel special and cared about. He was a great son, big brother and from what I hear, husband. He was here just a brief time but his spirit will live on in so many ways and with sharing of memories and stories he will always be present. We are told that he has not left, he has just stepped into the next room.

How do you describe a person who was essentially flawless? Lucas was two years younger than me, but I always seemed to be looking up to him. .. When we first met way back in high school, as counselors at Gerry Barker's Basketball camp, I only got a brief glimpse at the gem Lucas would reveal himself to be, but we immediately had a ton of mutual respect for one another. At that point, we didn't get a chance to have many one-on-one convos, but the values he proudly wore on his sleeve did all the talking. I had a good feeling about this guy. Fast forward a couple years to undergrad at U of T, and sure enough, I was right. As fate would have it, I lucked out big-time by getting a chance to befriend, and play on a team with the man I'd lovingly begin calling "region." As in Peel Region. Because his three-point range was nasty. Unsurprisingly, Lucas proved himself to be a dream teammate. He was hard-working, intelligent, selfless, caring, skilled. The youngin' was a natural-born leader. I loved being on the court with him. He was always looking for ways to improve, not only his own game, but that of his peers. Rarely have I seen such dedication. Most importantly though, each of these qualities he carried over into day-to-day life. And not just in theory like most of us, but in practice. I remember saying to myself how I wished I could be more like Lucas. He had it all in order and made it look so easy. The way he'd genuinely listen (and I really mean LISTEN) to everything you had to say, never rushing through conversation... The way he'd look at and speak about Stephanie... The way he'd grin and just tackle the day, never letting anything phase him... The way he just went out and got the job he really wanted. He truly was that dude you had nothing but the most positive things to say about. He was quite possibly -- no, most likely-- the kindest soul I've ever met. Most of all, I'll never forget how absurdly humble he was, our times on the court, his giving nature, our hour-long fantasy basketball talks, his consistency, and of course, that smile. Scrolling through my recent texts with him, a huge smile breaks through my sadness as I read a description of his wedding ("It was the best night of my life") and an anecdote about him getting a company coffee mug with "Peel Region" plastered on it despite none of his co-workers having any clue as to what it means. Though we last spoke a few weeks ago, and I didn't get a chance to say goodbye, I'm so glad that I at least did tell him I loved him and that he was an inspiration. He always will be. My heart and thoughts go out to all of Lucas's loved ones. Please know that I couldn't be more grateful to have known him and been touched by his incomparable presence.

Lucas was one of the classiest and nicest people I ever had the pleasure of knowing. I met him in university and had a great three years playing basketball, joking around and nagging him for fitness tips. My condolences to his family. Considering the significant impact Lucas had on people like myself who weren't particularly close to him I can't begin to imagine the love that his wife, parents and brothers must feel for him. He really was quite the special guy.
