Obituary of Dora Davenport
DORA C. DAVENPORT
July 29, 1918 - April 30, 2015
Her family is sorry to announce the death of Dora Charlotte Davenport, daughter of Hugh and Emily Parker, sister to Hugh and Jack Parker, and beloved wife of Alan Edwin Davenport, all predeceased (as are nephew John D. Parker and sister-in-law Florence Parker Taylor). Dora was born and lived her life in Toronto, attending Withrow and Wilkinson Public Schools and Eastern Commerce. Her career began in the office of a jewellery company, initiating a love of beautiful jewellery! For eight years she held a senior position in personnel at Bell Canada. She was known as a perfectionist in her work, in her home and in her dress. Into her late nineties, she drove herself, and drove well, always looking out for a new Infiniti. Even cars were not allowed to be dusty! She was a very classy lady. Dora's forte in her early life was as a seamstress, making all her own clothes. Cooking, however, was not her favourite pastime. For over forty years, she had lunch on Sundays at the Prince Hotel, becoming like family to the serving staff and concierge. Other days she was a regular at Anthony's in Don Mills where she was treated with care and special attention by the staff. Tuesdays, however, she and her dear friend, Jean, found other favourite lunch spots. The family is appreciative to all those who so graciously served her all those years, and particularly thank Novlette Smith and the women from Compassionate Care for their special, loving care latterly. Dora leaves an appreciative family of sister-in-law Lois Parker; nieces Carol Shaw (Wayne), Joy Parker Blackwood (Bill), Joan Munoz (Patrick), and Patricia Taylor; nephew Hugh Parker (Judy); great-nieces and nephews Ross Galloway (Liz Marshall), Lynn Galloway (Nicholas Goboly), Cameron Smith (Dani), Jackie Smith, Christine Parker (Todd Joyes), Karen Craig (Ryan) and the next generation of Brody Galloway, and Quinn and Abigail Joyes. All of us will miss her loyalty, her intelligence and her love. Dora will also be missed by Jean Nelson, the Gordon family, Murray Galloway and the members of Fifth Church of Christ, Scientist as well as by many other friends and neighbours.
