Obituary of Clifford Shirley

SHIRLEY, Clifford John Passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at Toronto, Ontario in his 80th year. Clifford is survived by Marcia Shirley, his wife of 53 years and best friend. Deeply loved by his children Cynthia, Gregory and Graham. Loving grandfather to Robert and Andrew O'Halloran, Ian and Adeline Shirley, and Aidan and Paige Shirley. Predeceased by his siblings Wilson, Samuel, Bill, Jim, Sadie, Launce and Evelyn. Survived by his sisters Lillian and Joyce and many nieces and nephews. The youngest of ten, Clifford was born in English Harbour West, Newfoundland in 1935. He graduated from Dalhousie University in 1962, married Marcia that year, and began working for the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. Clifford worked for CIBC for 44 years. He held numerous positions at the bank, and during his career lived in Boston (where he obtained his MBA), Regina, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Ottawa and Toronto, where he retired in 1996 as the bank's ombudsman. Clifford lived with cancer for many years, having first been diagnosed in 1983. Despite this, he lived an active and full life. A model of decency and kindness, he will be greatly missed by those who knew him. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES - NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14. A memorial gathering will be held in the chapel on Wednesday, April 15 at 11:00 a.m. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
