Obituary of Mary Seitz
Mary Edith Seitz (née Robinette)
Born May 2,1924, died March 15, 2015, in her 91st year.
Beloved wife of Ernest Burke Seitz; dear mother of Mimi McEvenue (Geoff Love); Sheilagh McEvenue; George (Debbie) McEvenue; Meg (Greg) Young; Kelly McEvenue; devoted grandmother of Kate Love (Nigel Lawson), Jesse (Shannon) Love, Rebecca Vogt, Molly Rafelson; great-grandmother of Blake and Charley Lawson; sister of Dodie MacNeill. Predeceased by her parents Dorothy and Thomas L. Robinette; brother Thomas W. Robinette and former husband George P. McEvenue. Also lovingly remembered by Burke's children, Bob (Gail) Seitz; Karen (Bill) McIntosh; Joanne Zimmerman; Maryjean (Don) Stewart; Barbara Seitz and William Seitz (both deceased); as well as Burke's grandchildren Olivia, Kate, Jean, Alison, Quentin, Shannon, Colleen, Paul and great-granddaughter Charlotte.
Educated at Branksome Hall and St. Clement's School, Mary was an athlete, and a professional figure skater during the war years with the Ice Follies.
During her years in London, Ontario, she sat on the board at St. Joseph's Hospital and did volunteer work for the Catholic Children's Aid Society. In the 1960's, she was undaunted by having five strong-willed teenagers under her roof, and was deemed by her childrens' contemporaries to be, hands down, the coolest mom in town.
A daily communicant and lector for many years at Mass, Mary's faith and church were her sanctuary.
In 1986, she and Burke married and began a new life together. Mary played beautiful golf at the Toronto Hunt (winning, among other awards, the Barbara Lace tournament 6 times) and, during the winter, played at Atlantis Golf Club in Florida. An avid tennis player, painter and dancer (she did a mean jitterbug), Mary was also accomplished at duplicate bridge. She enjoyed a well-mixed Manhattan with friends.
The family would like to express appreciation to the staff at North York General Hospital for their supportive care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2015, in ST. BONAVENTURE'S CHURCH, 1300 Leslie Street, Toronto, 416-447-5571.
If desired, donations may be made to the North York General Hospital Foundation, the Canadian Diabetes Association, Ovarian Cancer Canada or the Guillain-Barre Syndrome Foundation of Canada.
