Re: The funeral of Mary Edith Seitz Burke Van Valkenburg Born in Toronto, September 13, 1933. I was named after Burke Seitz by his father, Ernest Seitz, who was my official godfather as requested by my parents, Dick and Evelyn Van Valkenburg, in 1933. They were instrumental in gathering together five well-known Toronto pianists to play a five-piano concert at the UofT auditorium in the 1930’s, starting with Ernest Seitz, Scott Malcolm and three other well-known pianists at the time. My parents rented the auditorium with their own money and were well paid for their efforts after paying the musicians. It was a first for all of them. I haven’t see Burke very often in my life, and very sorry to read today of Mary Edith’s death. Please pass along my sincere condolences to Burke and the whole family. My 50-year old son is also named Burke Van Valkenburg Jr. He has three children, none of them named Burke. There are three Burkes running around Toronto these days, somewhat connected to one another. Sincerely, Burke Van Valkenburg Sr.

My Dear Burke, When receiving your email, I was shocked by your news. Especially you, but also all that knew Mary, grieve for especially for you! My thoughts are with you and the whole extended family. Our Christian belief does not view death as an ending. As we pray in the Mass for the Dead, “Indeed for your faithful, Lord, life is changed not ended, and, when this earthly dwelling turns to dust, an eternal dwelling is made ready for them in heaven.” Because life is changed, not ended, we continue to have communion with all those who have gone before us in death. Our prayers are for Mary. A tight hug for you, Burke! Lawrence H. Moquette, Montreal .

Cousin Mary was a wonderful person and although I have not seen her for years I have happy memories of her vivaciousness at the Robinette Christmas parties. Such an accomplished woman. And fun! I knew her best when she worked in the Registry Office searching titles with my mother. It seems that place was the escape valve for talented women who after many years were able to work for themselves. The sense of mischief in her smile immediately made me a willing confederate and we laughed a lot about the intrigue in the registry office and, down the hall, in the sherriff's office. I thought she was gorgeous and she truly was.
Love to all her children, my friends.

Dear Burke, Mary was much loved by all those who knew her at the Hunt and at 1 Concorde. The two of you came first at bridge at Highgate in December and won again on January 15, 2015, just a very short time ago! She will be greatly missed. Hugs to you at this very sad time. Affectionately, Joan Eddy
