Obituary of Helen Martin
MARTIN, Helen Louise
June 27, 1911 - October 17, 2011
Peacefully at home in her 101st year. Widow of the late Judge Walter Martin and devoted mother to twins Lisa and Lynda. Very special Aunt Helen to her nieces Shirley Good of Regina and Suzanne Robinson of Ottawa. A woman of courage and indomitable spirit, Helen came to Canada in 1946 and embraced her new life both as a mother and active member of her new community. Over the years she volunteered with various charities including The Canadian Red Cross, The Toronto Symphony and The Toronto Garden Club. Helens love of travel included several Cunard firsts: the maiden voyage of the Queen Mary, & the re-commissioned Queen Elizabeth; as well as travel adventures in Africa and discovering new Caribbean destinations. Barbados, though, was always her favourite, and in later years she enjoyed many winters visiting with friends or entertaining family at her accommodations on the island. In later years Helen was able to enjoy life in her home, surrounded by friends, family and fond memories, in large part due to the unerring care and loving devotion of Susan Buscar, her caregiver for nine years. She also greatly benefited from the attention given her by Anne Gallagher from CCAC, Joan Mcdonald, Dr. Bernice Snider, and Dr. Russell Goldman and his palliative care team from Mt. Sinai. Cremation and a private family service have taken place. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
REST IN PEACE MUM
