Obituary of Sasha Olsson

Olsson, Sasha Louise Aug 22, 1950 - Feb. 25, 2015 Beloved wife of Tony Fyles and loving mother of Alex and Madeleine Fyles. Sister of Angela Hamlen, Mary Grace, Gaye Flower and Bill Olsson. Predeceased by her parents Alexandra and Charles Olsson. She spent an idyllic childhood in France which left her with a lifelong passion for French food and culture, which later led to culinary classes at the Cordon Bleu. Sasha spent her career as an Operating Room nurse at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto, where a particular highlight was her pioneering work as an assistant to the late cardiac surgeon Dr. C.B. Baker. Her focus on helping others led her to volunteer in recent years with the Toronto People With AIDS Foundation and the AIDS Committee of Toronto. Her greatest joy in life was her family. Special thanks to her oncology team including Amit Oza, Michelle Wilson, Nazlin Jivraj, Barry Rosen, Mary Elliott, John Bryson, Andrew Bayley and many others at PMH; and the wonderful staff on 17B and 16P. Thanks as well for the support of her closest friends Jane Morton and Kathi Mason, and her sister Angela. A private cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation (thepmcf.ca) for Research in Ovarian Cancer (Dr. Amit Oza).
