Obituary of Susan Davidson
DAVIDSON, SUSAN HILARY
Peacefully in her sleep at home, on Thursday, February 12, 2015. Beloved wife of Stewart, who predeceased her by a few short days after a brief illness. Devoted mother of Fiona. Susan will be sadly missed by brother Karl Riddiough (Donna), nephew Chris (Lani) Riddiough, niece Andrea (Jeremy Courtney), sister-in-law Joan Davidson of New Zealand, and many relatives and close friends. A strong advocate for causes she believed in, at the time of her death, Susan was Chair of the Advisory Committee on Accessible Transit of the Toronto Transit Committee and a member of the Board of Directors of Anne Johnston Health Station, a community health centre serving individuals with physical disabilities, seniors and youth in a barrier-free environment, where she chaired the Strategic Planning, Policy & Quality Committee. Ever dedicated, Susan participated in this organization's Board meeting on Wednesday, February 11, 2015. She was an editorial board member of Risk Management in Canadian Health Care since its inception in 1997, and a former President of the Ontario Bar Association Health Law Executive. Susan started her career as a nurse, caring for patients at the bedside and later attended Osgoode Hall Law School. Susan was a leader in the health law field, recognized and sought out for her expertise in privacy, risk management, mental health and consent and capacity issues; her former health sector clients continue to talk about the excellence, clinical skill and compassion Susan brought to her role as counsel. She practiced law at the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care Legal Services Branch, Sawers Liswood Hickman Bullivant Dolan Watts and Cassels Brock. She devoted many hours to educating her peers and mentoring young lawyers. Susan will be remembered for her positive attitude in any situation and her genuine care and concern for those around her.
