My deep condolences to your family on Jim's passing. I will remember Jim for his cheerful smile, his dedication to the Mission to Seafarers and his persuasive ways to get one to speak and sing at the Shellbacks. His guidance will be missed.

Margaret, Douglas, Bruce, Graham, Joan and Ken: Our condolances on the death of Jim.
I am part of the Taylors/Leadbetter family from Markham. Jim's grandfather, J. J. and My grandmother were brother and Sister. We have not had much contact over the years but in the 40's and 50's we delivered meat and eggs to Bill and Nora's home as well as Uncle JJ and Ada's while they were still living. Of course I was not very old at that time. My wife, Carol, and I still live on that family farm where we produced and processed those foods for the St. Lawrence Market. Leadbetter Meats is still a going concern although John Leadbetter is having heart problems. Leadbetter's Cowboy Steaks are part of that Leadbetter butcher operation.
My mother, Minnie, and your aunt Dorothy Blyth were close friends. I remember going down to the harbour for a boat tour on a Taylor boat when I was quite young. That was a big outing for this little boy from the farm. Our son's father-in-law is quite an expert in the history of the Taylor Boat works.
We also keep in contact with Geoff Taylor of England and he is the one who made us aware of Jim's passing. Sorry I was unable to attend the funeral although we were present for Nora's funeral. We continue to treasure our connections to the Taylor family.
Kindest Regards.
Lorne and Carol Smith, 10292 McCowan Road, Markham.

Margaret: please accept my condolences to you and the whole family. Jim was my coach and mentor for almost 20 years, both on and off the water. He gave advice that was constructive and supportive, and always placed the interests of the company (or boat) above all others. He was a true friend and a gentleman in the fullest sense of the word. I will miss him.

This is an email I have sent to Jim on 1 February: "I promised myself to send you this note so that you can read it when you still can. Because I would like you to know that your presence had affected me very much through your kind and gentle demeanour, your defined leadership style, without pretense. And the many ways in which you engaged people of all stripes. The little I know of you, means a lot to me, Jim.
Thank you very much for everything. You have contributed to my life and I will carry it on. Lots of love.
I sent it too late. But it's still true and will be forever.

The members of NOTSA are saddened to hear of Jim's passing. Jim and his family had a big influence on National Yacht Club and it's history. The Taylor Boatworks and the boats built there played heavily in this area. Later Jack Martin bought the Taylor Boatworks to build the Contesssa in fiberglass. Oliver Bertin has written articles recently about this. Jim and his family produced wooden boats of all types from the Boatworks. One of these was a 19 foot sloop the Lightning.I sailed Lightnings for many years but only in fiberglass. Jim was the first instructor at National Yacht Club's sailing school. I was a member of a later class of the sailing school that has produced many members for NYC and many successful sailors. Jim made several presentations to NOTSA events on the subject of the Boatworks and was well attuned to the history of NYC and the area. Jim - Thanks for your contributions.

Margaret, Doug, Graham and Bruce, all our thoughts and prayers are with you. We are sad that we won't be with you on the day, but will be holding you in our hearts here. Jim was a gentleman, and a gentle man. He was a dear friend, mentor, teacher and guide. His sense of humour kept us going through "troubled waters". As much as we miss him, we are glad his suffering is over. He's the grand guest at a party in his honour in heaven. God bless you, Jim. We love you and will miss you forever. J & R Alltree
