Obituary of Beth Appleton

BETH ELLEN APPLETON May 19, 1962 - February 2, 2015 Daughter of Judith Appleton and the late Douglas Appleton My beautiful, vivacious and loving daughter Beth died on Monday, February 2, 2015 after an eighteen-month long illness with the devastating, cruel and rare Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease (CJD) and my heart is broken. Beth was my deeply loved daughter and friend and the loving stepdaughter of Tom Flood. Beth will be terribly missed by her three sisters, Lori (Mike Sovereign), Kelly Watson and Janet, who loved her dearly and were her close friends, confidants, shopping and travel companions. Beth was predeceased by her brother Steven, who died after being struck by a car in 1966 when he was 5 years old. Her nieces Lauren and Vanessa Watson and nephews Max Scatozza (Watson) and Steve (Katrenia Swica), and Matthew Sovereign loved their Aunt Beth and will miss her generosity, humour and their wonderful times together. She was the loving stepsister of Margaret (Victor Paan), Heather Flood (Brendan VanNiejenhuis) and Tom Jr. (Tanya Jurkovich). Beth was the close friend of Gilbert Alloul and Robin Kerbel for many years, and of Nancy Filoso, who was one of her dear friends and co-workers at Telus. Thank you Gil for your visits and long walks with Beth, even when she was unable to walk herself. And thank you Robin for your Sunday visits, and Nancy for all the home cooked meals that Beth enjoyed so much. We are very appreciative of Beth's friends who continued to visit long after Beth was aware of their presence. Beth was Director of Experiential Marketing at Telus and she loved her career, which involved worldwide travel and the coordination of large corporate events. She was energetic, vibrant and creative as evidenced by the awards presented to her by Telus. Tom and I are so thankful and feel blessed that we were able to care for Beth at home during her illness. Of course we could not have done this without the loyal help and support of her caregiver, Kathy Butardo. Her constant care and love for Beth were evident and her upbeat manner lifted Beth's spirit. Kathy became a part of our family. And thank you to the many CCAC caregivers who helped us with this difficult journey. Many thanks to friends, neighbours and business associates for your support. Your caring and thoughtfulness are sincerely appreciated. Cremation has taken place and a private service was held for Beth on Thursday, February 5th. If you wish, a remembrance to The Toronto Humane Society in memory of Beth and her beloved dog Hadley, or to the Alzheimer Society to help continue research into brain diseases would be appreciated.
