Obituary of Iris Gibson

Iris Millicent Maud Gibson (nee Herbert) passed away peacefully in her 96th year on Thursday, January 29th, 2015 at Sunnybrook Health Science Centre surrounded by her family. She was the loving mother of Wayne (Valerie) and Beverley Percival (John). She was the cherished grandmother of Sean, Christine and Steven Gibson, Eric Percival, Lianne Percival Mackay (Ian), Caitlin Percival and Shridhar Chander Shekhar, and the proud great-grandmother of Stephanie, Ryan and Colin Mackay. Iris will also be remembered with much love and fondness by her many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and life-long friends. She was pre-deceased by husband Walter of 65 years, brother Robert Herbert and his wife Evelyn Herbert, sister Freda Phaneuf and her husband Lloyd Phaneuf. Iris led an energetic life with her good humour, wisdom, beautiful spirit and zest for trying anything new. All who knew her will remember her welcoming warmth and beautiful smile to everyone who visited her home. She had a kind soul. Her love, affection and devotion to her family and friends is an inspiration to us all. We would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Jocelyn Charles and her team of doctors, nurses and staff at the Sunnybrook Family Health Clinic for their dedicated and kind support over the past 25 years. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES - NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday Feb. 6th. The funeral service will be held in the chapel on Saturday Feb. 7th at 1:00 p.m., followed by a reception in the Rosedale Room. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in memory of Iris Gibson be directed to "The Palliative Care Unit," in care of The Sunnybrook Foundation, 2075 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, ON, M4N 3M5 (416-480-4483).
