Obituary of Daniel Burtnick

Burtnick, Daniel Walter QC August 8, 1934 - January 5, 2015 After a 10-month battle with cancer, Dan passed peacefully at home in his 81st year. Husband of 51 years to Marjorie, father to Adrienne, James (Marina Zacharopoulos), David (Sarah Brooks), Paul (Cathy Traynor). He was the proud grandfather of Daniel, Andrew, Geoffrey, Janine, Luca and recently born Leo. Dan was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan and raised in Toronto, attending Jarvis Collegiate, the University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall Law School. He had a passion for regulatory law and served much of his career with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation & Communications. Dan enjoyed cartography, travel, summers at the lake and, especially, a good conversation. The family would like to thank the exceptional and compassionate staff of the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre and the palliative care staff that made it possible for him to remain at home for his final chapter of Life. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES - NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) on Friday, January 9 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:30 - 9:00 p.m. (Panakhyda/Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.). A funeral service will be held in HOLY EUCHARIST UKRAINIAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 515 Broadview Avenue on Saturday, January 10 at 10:30 a.m. If desired, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care, the Sunnybrook Odette Cancer Centre or the Holy Eucharist Church Renovation Fund.
