Holding you all in my thoughts with much love today and everyday...Joao was always so kind and welcoming whenever I came to visit in Toronto with my best friend, his granddaughter Awna Teixeira. He and Maria Fernanda made me feel like a part of the family too the moment I stepped through the door. I am so grateful to Joao Teixeira for bringing his wonderful family to Canada - none of us born here can truly understand the depth of strength, bravery, determination, and courage it takes to cross an ocean with nothing, leap into the unknown, and build a new life not just for oneself but for ones whole family too. What a triumph...What a truly amazing life and experience... I am so very sorry for all of your loss and sorrow... It is so hard to say goodbye- but he is not gone and will never be forgotten. John was a wonderful friend and neighbour to us for 22 years, as has been his whole family. We will miss his friendly greetings and will always remember his sense of humour, his homemade wine, his gardening advice. John was an inspiration : despite his health challenges over the years he always perservered and got out for a walk even if only a few steps.
