Obituary of William Todd Erskine Duncan
WILLIAM TODD ERSKINE
(DUNC) DUNCAN, M.B.E.
Dunc died peacefully at home on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, three days before his 94th birthday, after a short illness. He will be sorely missed by his loving daughters Paddy (Richard Schreier) and Wendy Allin (Calvin), grandchildren Peter, Jeffery, Quinlan and MacKenzie, sister-in-law Rosemary Clewes, brother-in-law Michael Whealy, and nieces Lise Whealy and Victoria Andic-Whealy. Predeceased by his wife Margaret Elizabeth (Peg) Duncan (neé Whealy) in 2012 with whom he had enjoyed 57 wonderful years. Dad especially enjoyed his time and friends at the family cottage in Newcastle, which he helped his father build in the early 1930s. A graduate of the University of Toronto in mechanical engineering, he served as a Captain in the Royal Canadian Mechanical and Electrical Engineers from 1942 until 1946. He enjoyed a long career at Honeywell in Toronto, retiring as Sales Manager of the Commercial Division. Despite having outlived many of his lifelong friends, he continued to make new friends wherever he went. Dad had an amazingly positive outlook on life, a wonderful sense of humour and he was always willing to help out anyone in need - particularly if it involved fixing something mechanical. "Reuse reduce recycle" was his mantra long before it became a slogan and he took great delight in rescuing things that others had discarded as beyond repair. Our heartfelt thanks to Brenda Martin, R.N. and all the wonderful staff at the Delmanor Wynford where Dad had a very happy last four years. Thank you also to Celia Perreira for her decades of devotion to both Dad and Mum. A memorial service will be held in NORTHLEA UNITED CHURCH, 125 Brentcliffe Road, Toronto, on Saturday, December 6 at 2:00 p.m. If desired, memorial donations can be made to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or The Aplastic Anemia & Myelodysplasia Association of Canada.
