Lorne Brohman

Obituary of Lorne Brohman

LORNE LEONARD BROHMAN April 26, 1929 - September 1, 2014 "He is cut from a different cloth." Those were the words of Dr. Norris at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre hours before Lorne passed away. Accurate words for someone born during the Depression and raised near Damascus, Ontario who, through his constant hard work, rose steadily through the ranks of The Toronto Dominion Bank to become General Manager. Lorne celebrated 62 years of marriage to Rita Rosemary Brohman (nee Weiler) on June 14, 2014. He was a loving and supportive father of David (d. April 23, 2010), Carol Anne and Robert, father-in-law to Ann Robitaille, and grandfather of Alison and Amy Brohman, Caitlin and Thomas Gascon. He was the eldest child of Edward and Anna Brohman. He was predeceased by one sister, Margaret. Survived by siblings Gerald, Clarence, Dorothy, Helen, Shirley, Patricia and Jean. After completing his education at Wells Business College, a 44-year banking career began with the Bank of Toronto in Kitchener, in 1947. Lorne retired as the General Manager of the Ontario North and East Division of The Toronto Dominion Bank in 1991. Lorne was an active member of Blessed Sacrament parish, and in 1995 his 25 years of lecturing was acknowledged by the then pastor, Father John Newton. Since retiring 23 years ago, he was busy enjoying his four grandchildren, serving as President of the Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club, being a founding member of the Toronto Grand Masters curling league and traveling to Europe, Vietnam, Ireland, Cambodia, Thailand and Cuba. Lorne was extremely proud of his home. His farming roots were demonstrated by his love and care of the garden. In 2010, Lorne was honoured by his eldest child David, in the biography, A Road Well Travelled: Lorne Brohman's Life Thus Far. Over the past year Lorne was cared for and made to laugh by our wonderful caregivers: Patsie, Sharon, Nenita, Madelyn, Anna, Eli, Rhoda, Evelyn and Natividad. Thank you from our family.
