Obituary of Donald Robertson
Donald Alexander Robertson. Born October 22, 1937 in Fort William,Ontario. Passed away March 9, 2012 in Toronto. Don was a man of deep spirituality. While his own practice was Christian, he understood that God has a big tent, and ever remained open to the Mystery. Don shared with us a talent for prose and exquisite poetry, a gift of voice and song, and a deep understanding of the comedy and tragedy that makes a life. He will be deeply missed by an extended family whom he has touched with his limitless patience, the ability to meet us all on our own terms and love people as they needed to be loved. Don's caring and guidance will endure in us all. Don was adored by his parents Don and Eleanor. He was first married to Gail (Crocker) whom he met while completing his Music degree at Western. Together they lovingly raised a family with children Jimmy, David and Kathy. Gail later struggled with cancer and Don was always there to support her until her passing in 1996. He took to travel and song. Song turned to love again. He married Carol Musselman in 1999 and embraced her children Adam and Athena as his own. He delighted in his grandchildren Victoria, Jakob and Ruby, and nurtured each in their individual dreams and talents. Don was a passionate educator. He initially taught high school Music and English in Ottawa. He then worked at TVOntario promoting new technologies and mentoring educators. He was a lifelong scholar with four degrees including a B.A., M.A., M.Ed. ending with an Ed.D. in 2000. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A celebration of Don's charismatic life will be held at a funeral service in ST. JAMES' CATHEDRAL on Wednesday, March 14 at 11 o'clock. In lieu of flowers, donations to Street to Trail can be made in his honour at www.street-to-trail.com.
