Obituary of Frederick Hedgcock
HEDGCOCK, Frederick Thomas BSc, MSc, Phd 1924-2011
Suddenly on October 6, 2011 at Sunnybrook Health Centre. Loving father of Laura and her husband Stephen Jarvis and grandfather of Peter and Douglas Jarvis. Predeceased by his wife, Ardath (2007). Survived by his sister Mary Louise Murphy (Montreal) and her family, Kathleen, Rebecca and Eileen (Brady Moffat).
Born in Toronto, Fred was a proud graduate of East York Collegiate Institute. He served in the RCAF (1942-45) and while stationed in Winnipeg met the love of his life, Ardath Pridham. He was a professor of physics at McGill University for much of his career. After retirement he and Ardath moved to their country home near Bath, Ontario where he was very involved with the Lennox & Addington Historical Society and Bath Artisans. Following Ardath's death he moved to Leaside Retirement residence which he enjoyed immensely.
Fred was a brilliant man with many and diverse interests-opera, speaking Italian, singing, sculpture, cooking and gardening. He will be remembered by many for his limericks and ditties.
A celebration of life will be held at Northlea United Church, 125 Brentcliffe Road on Wednesday, October 12th at 4:00. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Northlea United Church were Fred was so warmly welcomed and included.
