To the Canning Family:
I am shocked to hear the loss of a great father, dentist, and, personally a good friend to a brother. I am truly saddened to hear of this tragic loss. My thoughts and, prayers are with you-all of you-Mrs. Canning, Ann-Marie, Ted, and, also most important to the legacy he left behind. What can one say about dedication and, only one can speak of a man who showed this time and, again. I always recalled the conversations with Dr. Canning and, his humour. I will miss him but I am donating next month. I am sorry I missed but was busy attending to another matter-I always remember Ted and, his support of my eldest brother Paul during his time of need-thanks Ted-you take after your dad as does your later brother Huge Jr. I will miss him greatly and, may you all find strength at this difficult time. My Deepest Sympathy to a wonderful family-My thoughts are with all of you. Regards, J.P. Presti. February 9th, 2020.

I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Dr. Canning. Dr. Canning and his family has dealt with me for many years. He was a vibrant man and full of life. I will miss his humour and good nature. He always called me Debbie Travel and referred to me as Debbie Travel (like travel was my last name). You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Mrs. Canning and family, it was with shock and deep sadness that we learned about Dr. Canning's passing. Please accept our heartfelt condolences on your loss. Having known Dr. Canning and yourself through Michael and Karen over the years, we were always very pleased when we had a chance to say hello or share a story or two with you. There was always laughter that followed. He was also an incredible role model as a father, husband and professional and was someone that we all looked up to as we started our own marriages, families and careers. He will be very dearly missed. Arthur and Stefanie Lee and Family

A move to Toronto in 1959, and I without a new dentist, my new "Boss" at St. Michael's Hospital School of Nursing, Sister de Sales, highly recommended Dr. Canning. How right she was, since I then became his client for the next close to 40 years, until he retired. Every visit started with, "Pat, take off that war paint and let's go." He was a wonderful man who became a friend. He will be greatly missed. God bless.

Dear Ann, I was saddened when I opened the obituary section of the Globe and Mail this morning and saw the photo of Hugh jump out at me. We first met when we sat side by side in the dental materials lab at 230 College Street in 1950. When things were not going well, such as not being able to solder those tiny pieces of wire together, Hugh would say, “Fil, these things are sent to try us.” So many times over these intervening 64 years, when things are not going well, have I repeated this saying of Hugh’s (and always giving him credit). This and another saying, “Planters Peanuts are the best” is how I well remember this affable man - and good friend. My most sincere condolences to you, Ann, and to your family. I am sure you have had a wonderful 60 years together. Fil Cappa.
