Obituary of John Clement
CLEMENT, John Twining, Q.C. - Passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at the Kensington Hospice in Toronto. Born in Niagara Falls on August 28, 1928, John was the son of John (Jack) and Doris Clement. John lived life to the fullest and achieved everything he wanted in life - he became a lawyer, a father, a pilot, a member of the provincial legislature and, most proudly, a grandfather seven times over. He was known as a loyal and generous friend. He sat on the Niagara Falls School Board, was president of the St. Catharines Flying Club, and served as the Member of Provincial Parliament for Niagara Falls from 1971-75. During that time he made life-long friends from all political parties in the legislature. A brilliant public speaker, he was a much sought-after Master of Ceremonies at both political and non-political functions for many years after he left public life. He had an incredible sense of humour that made him the centre of attention at any event he attended. He loved to spend an afternoon performing aerobatics in his plane in the skies over Niagara, pheasant hunting with friends or teasing his grandchildren. He fit a lot of living and love into his 85-plus years. He is survived by his wife Carol, daughters Marnie and her husband Lou Smyrlis, Jane and her husband Michael Howse, Susan Wonch, and step-son Tony and his wife Lynne Golding, as well as grandchildren Jonathan Wonch, Alex Clement, Lauren Howse, Maxim Clement, Ian Howse, Elexa Clement and Jason Smyrlis. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Thursday, June 26. A memorial service will be held in the chapel on Friday, June 27 at 11:00 a.m. If desired, donations may be made to the Kensington Hospice, 340 College Street, Toronto M5T 3A9 or Belmont Foundation, 55 Belmont Street, Toronto M5R 1R1. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
