Obituary of Gordon Cummings
GORDON BRUCE CUMMINGS
1960 - 2014
It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Gordon at home on March 25, 2014. Beloved husband of Gillian, cherished father of Madeleine and Olivia, he is survived by his loving parents, Allister and Barbara, and sister Debbie. Brother-in-law to Niall and Katherine, uncle of Leslie, Greg, Linda, Allison, Jamie and Samantha, and great-uncle of Morgan, Gord will be forever loved.Born in Saint John, Gord grew up in Toronto's Leaside, and graduated from the University of Toronto, where he was president of the Toronto chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon. He was a gifted athlete, keeper of a storybook high-school romance with Gillian that continued for 38 years. A devoted father, he cheered at countless running races, field hockey and soccer games, and listened with pride at many concerts. His intelligence, sense of fun and keen understanding of others brought him the admiration of many friends, whom he loved to join on the hockey rink or the golf course. In his 30-year career with Pitfield MacKay Ross, Dominion Securities, and more recently as a Vice President of RBC Dominion Securities, Gord's leadership abilities were widely known. He was a trusted advisor for his clients, skilled coach to new advisors, and over the years, a respected branch manager in Peterborough, downtown Toronto and at the Yonge and Bloor office. As an Investment Advisor since 2001 with a very large practice, Gord was known for his integrity, and sought-after for his knowledge and mentorship. Both colleagues and clients often came to Gord for advice, whether business or personal. In recent years, he loved his summers in Prince Edward Island, walking the cliff or searching the beach for blue sea glass. Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at Northlea United Church, 125 Brentcliffe Road, Toronto, on Monday, March 31, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
