I remember a wonderful Grandma always ready to give me Frosted Flakes (I was only allowed serious cereals at home)and have a cup of tea. Shy and sweet and I will forever remember her in my Kilt and Skean Du. I will remember her last smile to me until I am ready to go. I am happy she is somewhere beautiful now and will no longer suffer, but I miss her.

One of the messages I would like caregivers, family as well as institutional support workers, to take from my mother's life is the importance of accepting whatever state the person is in with creativity. Fay thought photographic images were real, although she was mostly interested in handsome ones such as Sean Connery, Prince William and as all the Belmont caregivers knew, Johnny Mathis. Sarah called her "Johnny's Girl" as if it was the most natural thing in the world, then all the other caregivers did as well. I don't know where the CD of Johnny's greatest hits came from, because Fay had never listened to him before this, but I had to start laminating these pictures. Generous as always, whenever they came to "visit" she insisted on feeding them cookies, cups of tea or soup! She was closest to Johnny, who she said "is in my care" as if he was a little boy. Then he would protect her at other times. During the SARS crisis Fay was taken to emergency at Toronto General after she passed out. When Sandra called to speak with Mom the nurse said with amusement "Some guy called Johnny apparently told her not to cooperate."

Faye (I never called her that - it was always Mrs. Morgan) made many wonderful meals for Heather and I over the years. We would often visit her on Sunday evenings - dinner, always followed by tea and some British TV show - and always with some sweet treat at the end.
Fay seemed to get great amusement from the dogs we would sometimes bring over, notably wee Henry. Even the big German Sheppard we brought once didn't seem to phase her.
As we all know, politics is one of the things you don't usually bring up in polite company. But Fay had a way of poking fun at the political figures of the day with humorous word play and impish puns, which she seemed to delight in. Sometimes her observations would be made into little paintings or drawings. She would sometimes clip items out of the newspaper to show Heather and I. Sometimes this led to heated discussions.
Thank you Mrs. Morgan for feeding us and for your wonderful daughter Heather!

It was my very great privilege to meet and get to know Fay while my mother was resident at Belmont House and also during the times after my Mum died and I was volunteering at Belmont. Even through the screen of dementia, the grace and beauty of Fay, her gentility and sweetness and on certain magic times, her pretty smile and lovely singing voice, shone through to share with us all the delightful lady that she actually was. I never forgot Fay and never will. Neither will I ever forget the love, support and understanding that Marie and Sandra showed to their mother and even, with astonishing generosity, shared with me up to and during the passing of my own mother. My commiserations to all of Fay's family. God bless you all and may God help us not so much to mourn as to celebrate Fay and her passing to eternal peace.
